Yep.

strategy: For January, not read anything too challenging.

book: The Long Goodbye by: Raymond Chandler

why?: Raymond Chandler is one of the 1950's best pulp writers, period.

length: 379 pages. I read this one in book form. Not with a Kindle.

5 second book report: Detective Phillip Marlowe (Chandler's reoccurring main character) makes friends with a scarred up, out of luck drunk who's married to a wealthy nymphomaniac. Throughout the story, there are people on the lam, guns, double crosses, switchblades, murders etc. Last year I read Chandler's The Big Sleep and it was a bit better but this one was a fun twisty and turny read. Recommend if you like pulp potboilers.

book score: 3rd book read out of 50.

find it here.

50 books in 365 days: red badge of courage.

mission: I'm going to read 50 books in a year? Mainly what people consider the classics. This book was one of them and I was never assigned to read it in High School so I figured 'what the hey'.

length: It says in print form it's 126 pages but in Kindle form it felt like a lot more.

5 second book report: It's about a kid who enlists to fight in the Cival War. Before the first battle he's nervous about fighting and getting himself killed. Understandable. As soon as the first battle starts he bails. Also very understandable. Then later on as the battle (and the book) progresses he gets the hang of things and starts getting into killing and stuff. Not a bad book. It was way better than Romeo and Juliet (which I did have to read in High School).

book score: 2 out of 50.

find it here

50 books in 365 days: The Onion Presents: The Best of Jim Anchower

mission: I'm going to read 50 books in a year? I bought the above named book for $2.00. I needed something to read for the trip home from Rhode Island. If you didn't know Jim Anchower's stories in The Onion are funny (and slightly repetitive) but mainly funny.

length: 124 pages. Not too challenging and probably the shortest book I'm going to read for the year long challenge.

5 second book report: The book is basically just a collection of Jim's editorials about his day and whatnot. Engrossing and semi-literate and all in all pretty good. Worth the $2. Plus it helped me get used to reading with the new Kindle Fire. Bonus.

book score: 1 out of 50.

find the book here.
