The Predator Minute (part 1 of 12): when is it a good time to talk about the movie Predator?

"anytime."

There are not a lot of quiet moments in the movie Predator. Most of the movie focuses on someone getting brutally shot by Schwarzenegger's crew or someone in Schwarzenegger's crew getting brutally murdered by the Predator. A win win if you ask me.

However the killing of the scorpion on Dillon's back is probably my favorite quiet moment in the movie.

Even though Dillon is a bit rusty at the whole killing a bunch of people game he tags along on the mission anyway. It later turns out after the killing a bunch of people part of the mission is over that Dillon is a total liar face who willingly used Arnie and his crew to do some of his "dirty work" by wiping out the guerrillas in the jungle compound. Arnie's crew is pretty nonplussed after finding out they've been horns waggled.

At least Mac was nice enough to get the scorpion off of him. And the way Mac does it is pretty cool. Most guys i know would have been like: "dude ... don't look now but there's a scorpion on your back." and then would have watched (and laughed their asses off) as the guy spazzed out screaming "get it off me! get it off me!"

Mac also gets extra credit just for killing a bug with a big ass knife. Ever since i got stung by that wasp i have a new unhealthy phobia of bugs. So these days (for me anyway) the only good bug is a dead bug.

Also the first time you see the movie it's hard to figure out what the weird noises and distorted bits of dialog and the Predator vision are all about. After Arnie and the gang leave the enemy camp they just destroyed you see a giant monster's hand pick up the dead scorpion. It looks all infrared and night visoney.

Again the scorpion scene is one of my favorite quiet moments in the movie.

Next month's Predator Minute: don't do that.

Been too long since I have seen Predator. Need to check the cable guide NOW.

It's my favourite quiet scene also - but I thought there were several quiet scenes. Lots of standing silently in the jungle while the tracker stares off into the trees. But yeah, it's pretty noisy other than that.

P.S. Did you know the tracker made a bunch of porno?

The only good bug is a dead bug for me too! We should join forces and try to wipe out all the bugs together. I enjoy the new Predator posts! Keep up the good work, man!

no no no..the best quote it "So you cooked up a story and drop six of us into meatgrinder. What happened to you Dillon? You used to be someone I could trust." You gotta say it with Arnie's accent though. This movie never gets old. Bill Duke is the bomb, Jessie is the Bomb, the whole movie never gets tiring no matter how many times you have seen it.

It's not a bug, it's an arachnid!

Sorry, my inner science geek took over there for a second.

Um...I love Predator!

Agreed, for me, it is between the Scorpion and the scene of the Predator climbing out of the pool of water and overlooking the muddied Arnold. Each of the scenes are so iconic and memorable its impossible to choose!

Wings- i saw it the other week on cable and stayed up until 2:30 in the morning to watch it 'til the end.

Gore-Gore Girl- Sonny Landham was the tracker's real name i believe. i didn't know about him being in porno but good for him! glad to see he kept busy.

Flossin- thanks. while hate bugs you can't kill them all. if you did the events of that movie The Happening might happen and we don't need to relive what happened in The Happening. ever.

Cal- we're not talking quotes yet. the 'meatgrinder' quote is a good one. this month is favorite quiet moments. quotes we'll get to somewhere down the line though. promise. might even be a two parter. lots of good quotes in Predator.

IchMagSieNicht- do not stifle or apologies for having an inner science geek. i had an inner science geek once too but he died. that's why i know so little about scorpions and arachnids.

Carl- i like when The Pred doesn't see Arnold and walks off in a huff and Arnold says out loud to himself "he didn't see me."

WIEC, great post. I love that scene too, but it's really made great by the first appearance of the Predator like you stated. I love the "anytime" recorded voice you hear as the had sits there with the scorpion going cold.

Fiji- hells yeah. the Predator vision/ predator hearing is very awesome. especially the first time you see the movie because like the Rescue Team you have no idea what the heck is out there chasing them.

the sound editing is pretty excellent in Predator.
